Projects / T.V. / The Roman Invasion of Britain

The Roman Invasion of Britain (/Y Rhufeiniaid) is a documentary series telling the story of the Roman occupation of Britain.
In three hour-long programmes titled Onslaught, Revolt and Dominion, the friction, cultural influence and interaction between conqueror and conquered are explored. With the help of dramatic reconstructions and CGI we discover the period from 43 and 410 AD, when Britain was on the far west edge of the greatest empire that the world had ever seen.
The English/international version presented by Bettany Hughes was broadcast by The History Channel and History HD from Wednesday 15th July 2009 at 9pm and the Welsh version presented by Rhun ap Iorwerth broadcast by S4C from Tuesday 10 March 2009 at 9pm.
He explains that "the series is packed with tales of heroism about the leaders of the British tribes and the astute military nous of the Romans. It was great to learn more about heroes such as Caratacus and Boadicea and, as a native of Anglesey, I could take pride in the stand made by the island's druids in the face of Roman might."
