Projects / Film / Dawn

John Hardy wrote the music for this short film, winner of D.M. Davies Award in November 2005 and BAFTA Cymru (Best Short Film) in April 2006.
Two young children who inhabit the margins of society awake one bright summer’s morning in their high-rise council flat on a desolate, bleak and unforgiving estate. To the audible and visual backdrop of a city slowly coming to life after its slumber, they set about their morning routine unaided by their lifeless mother.
"In my experience thus far I have found that the soundtrack tends to make itself apparent during the edit.
This could be because I write very dense soundscapes. Many composers tend to shy away from wanting to add anything at all.
The exception to this was John Hardy. His work on 'Dawn' was so beautiful. He understood the script inside out and he produced the most subtle and haunting of soundtracks.." Tony Hurley, director
