In addition to the RTS Best Network Factual Programme 2007, the film also picked up two Silver World Medals at the New York Film Festival and a Platinum Remi at the 40th Houston FilmFest.
Children of the Valley is a documentary about the Aberfan disaster when a massive landslide destroyed a school, killing 144 people. Only 25 children in the school survived the disaster. The aftermath was documented by photographer Chuck Rapoport who returned to Aberfan 40 years later to meet and interview the survivors once again. John Hardy wrote the music for this documentary with special performances by his children, who are the same age as many of the children in the Aberfan school at the time of the disaster.
